For many years, the "Metro Men's Chorus" provided us with an ensemble we could be proud of, but, as sometimes happens, financial issues, scheduling issues, and performer burnout took their toll, and the MMC finally dissolved after the 2001 season. Some of the former MMC members missed the music and the camaraderie enough that, this year, we decided to take a chance and establish a new men's chorus here, using some of the lessons learned from the Metro Men's Chorus.
The new ensemble, "PlainSong", will comprise two levels of membership. Singing members will be accepted only after an audition, which will demonstrate vocal technique and the ability to read music. Supporting members will pay less in dues, are welcome at all rehearsals, events and performances at no charge, and while they will not sing they will provide in-house support for the ensemble... we think it's a good way for the singers' non-singing spouses, and other interested community members, to provide support, while getting a chance to hear some really good music for (almost) free.

Auditions for new singers are held by appointment, not less than 8 weeks prior to a major performance... audition dates will be scheduled for August and January of each year. Actual dates will be posted in our Events calendar about a month ahead of time. Our goal is to grow to a membership of 16 singers, comprising four balanced quartets.
Plainsong accepted an invitation in August to become an "ensemble in residence" at Mayflower Congregational Church in Oklahoma City (Dr. Robin Meyer, pastor, and Richard Jobe, Director of Music). On October 5th, we performed there during the church service, on World Communion Sunday, with our first full concert following on December 12th. This holiday-themed concert featured the "Fantasia on Christmas Carols" by Ralph Vaughn Williams. Guest artists included Scott Raab, organist, and Kirsten Underwood, cellist.

As we grow and develop, we expect to establish a performance schedule with major concerts in the fall, in the Christmas/New Year holiday season, and in the spring, with smaller performances at various times and supporting various community events.
